    Looking for a B234 engine

    Hello everyone, greetings from Chile

As stated in the topic I'm looking for a replacement engine for the SAAB 9000 CSE '98 B234 turbo, A/T, VIN: YS3CF68M5W1003235. It's a very rare car here in Chile and that's where I'm currently living therefore I have to look abroad.

Have already checked on EBay and found one B234 from '99 9-5 in US. Don't know if it'll fit the 9000.

Anyway it's good to have options and I thought where'd be a better place to look for them if not in Sweden?

I'll appreciate any help and any clue as where to find a new heart for this car. It could be a refurbished one or one from scrap yard, with or without the transmission and/or equipment (starter, alternator, turbo etc.). What counts is its condition because I'd like to swap engines with no major job than timing chain.

So please, give a SAAB a chance for a second life and thanks in advance,
    Jacek

The engine from a 9-5 whatever the model year is. Is a B235 Engine. IF i'm informed correctlythis won;t fit. Cause of the difference in sensors. And pumps for the cooling water. Powersteeringfluid. Different alternator and so on.

    Hello and welcome!

I thing you may get some help if keeping an eye on "Pryltorget säljes" where members of this forum can place there ads regarding selling parts.

You can also place an ad on "Pryltorget köpes"

Another swedish site for is Blocket.

Many swedish scrap yards are connected to Bildelsbasen: http://www.bildelsbasen.se/?index=defau ... hmode=1&vc[]=187107100&vc1=187&vc2=107&pc[]=120101100&pc1=120&sortfield=vehiclemodelyear&sort order=1&page=1

(Please note that "Mil" is equivalent to 10km so 21 000 Mil corresponds to 210 000 km)

If i'm not totally misstaken your car is a 1998 and therefore all B234 turbo engines between 1994 and 1998 will fit.

    Good luck!

Hello and thank you for your answers.

Thanks to the links you provided I've also found this one:

    http://www.lagabasen.se

which seems to be similar to the bildelsbasen.se

During the weekend I'll have more time to revise all those ads but I've got some questions already:

    1. Seems to me that the manual gearbox is the most popular there. Was the mounting to the engine any different from the automatic or swapping those two will be easy?

    2. Apparently the guy on EBay made a mistake providing B234 as the engine's symbol (you can check for yourself http://tinyurl.com/ytngak) when he's clearly dismantling a 9-5. You say B235 won't fit because of differences in sensors and equipment which makes a lot of sense to me. However was it that different from B234 it won't fit even if it comes with all the equipment (starter, alternator, turbo, sensors etc.) and ECU?

    3. Do you know of any workshop specializing in refurbishing and selling SAAB engines? I've found the Volvo engine once and it was refurbished by the Volvo approved workshop, came in a Volvo crate, with Volvo oil filter etc. and was pretty cheap as for almost new engine.

    Hello

    Some short answers.
    Junkyards in Sweden:
www.laga.se or www.lagabasen.se, http://www.bildelsbasen.se are the same thing. Nearly all Swedish junkyards are connected to them both.

    For example:
    http://www.lagabasen.se/delinfo.aspx?delindx=28826508

    http://www.bildelsbasen.se/index.php?in ... 4853299&vc[]=187103100&vc2=103&pc[]=107100100&pc1=107&sortfield=vehiclemodelyear&sort order=1&page=1&id=14174783

This is the same car (in this case a B235L). This Is “my” old car by the way.

Gearboxes. Yes, Swedes fit by tradition cars with mostly manual gearboxes. The automatic transmission is an expensive add-on for a new car that most Swedes doesn’t think they need. If you have a complete car and needs to swap the engine it doesn’t matter if the new engine comes from a car with automatic or with a manual transmission. You can reuse the few items you need from the old engine. Just make sure the engine is from the right family.

The eBay add. This is most likely a B235 engine. The engine also has the black direct ignition cassette. This must be a error by the seller.

The best way and also the cheapest is in the end I think to rebuild the unit you have in the car. In Sweden we have at least one nice independent shop I can think of for Saab spare parts, http://www.speedparts.se
The fright outside Sweden might be the biggest problem but otherwise this is a good link.

There is also another company in Sweden www.sdcc.se .This is a junkyard that Saab Automobile runs. Great place for used Saab items. They announce the items thru the web pages lagabasen or bildelsbasen, or by phone.

It’s a big project to swap the B234 to a B235 completely with everything including electrics. In Sweden it´s popular to make a hybrid with the B2x5 as base and the crank, piston and rods from a B234. This to eliminate the oil sludge problem, in some cases makes the volume bigger and prepare it for higher output. The base engine core/house is pretty much the same so the inside will fit but to swap the complete thing to a newer family is another project.

In Sweden we have many companies for example http://www.vege.se or http://www.snorremaskin.se (that I know are a nice company) doing a complete overhaul of engines. On www.google.se search for “motorrenovering”.
The problem is that they often have a Swedish homepage if they have a homepage at all.
The big problem for you might be the pallet cost from Sweden to Chile and the core charge.
If you need something from Sweden, make a PM or post, I can help you with the language and the first contact.

Some adds from www.blocket.se Search for “B234”, “saab”, “motor”, “utbytesmotor” and chose the alternative “Bildelar & tillbehör” in the scroll down list to the right of the search string.

    http://www.blocket.se/vi/14915536.htm?ca=10_s
”motor 500-2500:-” ”complete engine 500-2500”, price in SEK (100 SEK = 9,30 EUR)

    http://www.blocket.se/vi/14406257.htm?ca=10_s&last=1
(my note, in short from here) Due to engine failure my B234 199 000km is for sale. Crankshaft is damage due to rod bearing failure. Pistons OK. Head is refurbished (surface against engine).
(my note from here price will be cheep. This is a rebuild project.
