    simons vs ferrita - sound

    Hello Saab friends!

Here in the USA we don't have many cars with a Ferrita exhaust. A few people have the Simons version, that looks very much like the old Saab/Remus.

Now, I would like the best in quality , performance and also sound.

My wife has a Remus from Saab on her 9-5 and it is very nice sounding but also very quiet.

I also will get a 9-5, and I don't want something very loud for my car, but I do want a aggressive sound. My options are Simons and Ferrita, and it will be mounted with a 3" downpipe with racing catalyst.

I know of the difference in price

but, who can tell me the difference in sound, quality, and performance? any audio or video files of a ferrrita on a 9-5? I have seen a video that shows the simons, and it sounds similar to the Remus.

If your looking for the best guaranteed quality, then you should get a Ferrita system.
    They got a Lifetime Warranty.
As long as it´s the same owner during the cars/exhausts lifetime.

Both Simons and Ferrita gives a nice "muller"....hehe

I don´t cara about warranties and I´m probably gonna make my own system from different 3" pipes and bends.
Costs a fraction of the cost, and makes the right kind of sound.

Thanks for the reply. It does appear that Ferrita is very high quality.

but of the two systems, Simons and Ferrita, is one louder? Or has a better sound?

I've been looking at Ferrita systems for quite some time. Now that I have an 81 8V turbo c900 I'm a bit more interested, though the biggest factor for me (being that I'm in Australia) is the shipping cost to get a system out here. I'm aware that Elkparts list Ferrita systems on their website so that might be a good way to go when I'm cashed up enough to buy one.

Ferrita appears to still make a system that suits 8V turbo's. Most other aftermarket exhaust places only have systems that suit 16V c900's, though the turbo 8V and 16V engines should have the turbo exhaust output in exactly the same location (?) and that should theoretically make for a more universal fit of just about about any aftermarket classic 900 turbo exhaust system. Wishful thinking maybe?

Exept for a well-tuned 2-stroke when at high pitch, the og900 16V Turbo
deliver the most beautiful sound with Ferrita ( original exhaust manifold is a must ). When idling it sounds like a mix of a big V8 and an old fishing boat engine.

Talking 95's they never can match og900 cause another exhaust manifold, - but my choice would still be the Ferrita system.

Thanks for the feedback. I still want a ferrita system, esp. for my 81 8V turbo, but shipping might make it beyond the budget for a while.

Exhaust sound with stainless system (e.g. Ferrita)

From my own experience with Ferrita on a NON-Turbo 900S 1995 (NG900): A slightly more metallic/hard sound and a slightly more vibrations compared to the original system. The last silencer i the system also have a cylindrical shape, while the original is more or less box-shaped.

I would surely forgive the differences given the everlasting duration and only 50% to 100% percent more expensive.

Yes that's why I'm serious considering getting Ferrita kits to go on my c900's. I noticed however that Feritta has now dropped from their website the stainless exhaust kit for 8V c900's (SAK-30119 I think was the code number). I'll have to see if Elkparts still has it listed in their inventory as they might have some left in stock.

Ferrita still has the 16V c900's kits listed. I guess the demand for 8V kits has just about stopped now.

I know there are two places in the UK selling twin-outlet stainless-steel c900's exhaust tailpipes through Ebay at the moment, so that's another option.

Re: simons vs ferrita - sound

Historically Ferrita has been focusing on aftermarket stainless steel systems close to the genuine SAAB parts when it comes to sound and performance. (And with longer life.)
Simons have mostly made "sport" exhausts from standard non-stainless materials, inferior to genuine SAAB parts when it comes to steel quality and fit, but often with a sporty sound. (But not in an annoying way...)

Re: simons vs ferrita - sound

A have Ferrita catback system (2½") and downpipe with race catalyst. (3")

On low RPM the sound is slightly different from Saab original parts... A bit more dull or muffled (Can't find the right word)

But when you put the pedal to the metal it's a roaring sound... kind of intimidating haha. I really like it. I think it sounds better than the JT 3" stuff for example.
