Hi
I was wondering, is it possible to modify a saab 9000 (1995) to run with etanol? What changes are needed and is there a ready "kit" for this?
What about the same with 9-5 2.0t?

Do we have etanol in Finland? Have i missed something?
Tulossa on kuitenkin varmasti.
Ne kittit joka on olemassa eivät ole kovin hyviä, tavallistesi ne vaan nostavat bensapaineen ja se ei riitä.
Saabin omassa biopowerissa seuraavat osat on vaihdettu.
*tankki ja täyttöputki
*Polttoainepumppu
*Vähän polttoaineletkuja
*Polttoaineen painesäädin.
*Kovemmat venttiilisatulat, sekä imu ja tulopuolella
*Toiset imuventtiilit
*Sytytystulpat (BCPR7ES-11)

Conversion kits for the 9-5 and other turbo cars are sometimes available in the US, although costly (over $1000). Not very popular, because conversions of any car designed to run on regular unleaded gas are not allowed by the EPA agency.
Actual prosecution of individuals is rare, but the government considers cars which are modified in that way in the same caregory as a race car, and you may no longer be able to get plates to drive on the street depending on the state.
Conversion of a 1994-98 model 900 is simpler and cheaper, but the same problem exists. The car may pass an emissions check, but technically a law is being broken. Most businesses which provide aftermarket car parts do not want to engage in an expensive battle with the regulators over this. The individual parts are available, but selling them as a kit to tune an engine to use ethanol (in the US actually E85 or a blend of 85% alcohol and 15% regular fuel), is difficult.
Example of a 9-5 conversion kit:

On newer 9-5's (post MY02) you can convert to full BioPower functionality, i.e. mix E85 and regular gas. On earlier 9-5's and 9K's, you need a separate E85 software, i.e. you will only be able to use E85.
Modifications are usually only software and, in most cases, larger injectors. In principle, you should also modifiy fuel lines, valves etc. but in most cases this is "overseen"...
