My double din - 2 din SAAB 9000 project

Hi all

I decided that I wanted to have a double din on my 9000, which I will use to install a radio double din or a carpc (home made).

Since I intend to have a GPS system on it I got to the conclusion that If it needed to be as high as possible on the dashboard. I check the electric cables/connection on the AC/fan module control and then saw it was possible to move it down.

I also check if the standard 2din dimension would fit bellow the ventilation system (normally above the ac/fan control module) and they will fit but I need to put the the 2din case as low as I can bellow the ventilation.

If you check the dashboard of the new 9-5 you will see that's exactly the same design although much more modern.



So I used a plastic dashboard that I had to do my "exclusive" dashboard

Here it's almost finish and ready to paint.




Unfortunately the car is in Portugal and I had to get back to Munich (where I live) before being able to complete it. So probably in March I will be able to do it and then show the final result.

Really nice! I really like when people put some effort into this kind of work instead of just grinding a big hole and throw something in there.
I've been planning a double din for my 9-3 for a while now. If it ever happens, I'll make sure to take some pictures of it.

A question before I start to work with my panel
Did you need to take away the metal rods behind the panel
when you put in the ACC panel or did it fit between them ?
Have found any 2DIN stereo yet ?
